Trailer for Nicky Wu's 'The Bride with White Hair' (新白髮魔女傳)
[info]kycoo

Nicky looks good. Fighting looks good. CGI looks overdone, but after watching Nicky's version of Xiao Shiyi Lang, I'm pretty much immune to bad CGI.

I'm about to go on an online shopping spree! What are your favourite places to buy clothes, shoes, accessories and such?

Also, where can I find opaque tights in a range of different colours? I've been looking but so far I've only been able to find black and pink.

Worst way to repay hospitality, Yang Guo
[info]kycoo
So I'm on episode 9 of ROCH '06, and Yang Guo decides that he and his fellow traveler Wushuang (forgot her last name, but she's the girl who was kidnapped by villain Li Mochou in ep 1) need a place to hide. As a result, they end up threatening a Mongolian guy to take them in by stabbing him with a poisoned needle and saying that if he doesn't take them in they won't give him the antidote. So they get taken in by the guy.

And this is how Yang Guo chooses to repay his host:
> Girl named Wanyan Ping tries to assassinate Mongolian guy.
> Mongolian guy's son (Yelü Qi) and daughter save their dad from being killed.
> Yelü Qi tells Wanyan Ping that he's only been using his right hand to fight her, because he's afraid that if he uses his much more powerful left hand, he'll hurt her. But if she can find a way to make him fight her with his left hand, he'll admit defeat and death.
> Wanyan Ping goes away, presumably wondering how she's going to find a good enough shifu to teach her that. Keep in mind that she's trying to kill the Mongolian guy, who is getting along in age, so she kinda needs to figure this out before he kicks the bucket and she can't avenge her family.
> Yang Guo drops in and teaches her how to accomplish Yelü Qi's challenge in three moves.

THIS IS YOUR HOST'S SON, YANG GUO, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS.

Oh well, at least we get to see some good kung fu. C:

Haircut (trim) near the CBD?
[info]kissedbythegods wrote in [info]melbournemaniac
Everyone was so helpful on the breakfast recommendations (thanks!) that I have another querie...

Where can I get a decent trim for under $40? I am keen to stay in the CBD or very, very close to it and I'm also looking for a stylist that knows what they're doing. The lower I can go under $40 the better as well! I've been eyeing up a $20 trim sign near Flinders Station but don't really know how that would go...

Thanks again!

Moving Interstate Advice?
[info]rosey2812 wrote in [info]melbournemaniac
Hey guys!!

So a few months ago I made the decision to make the move from Brisbane to Melbourne. Obviously its easier said than done, so I was hoping to come here and get any advice or pointers from anyone here who's had experience making the interstate move. Basically, my main thing is finding a job, something I want to secure BEFORE I pack everything up and go. I've been searching for the last few weeks for something, I've got over 4 years of admin and customer service experience (2 of those with the QLD Gov), a few years of cafe & barista experience, but still nothing. My cover letter states really clearly that I'm moving, and am happy to fly in for interviews etc. I was looking to fly down for a few days in a couple of weeks to do interviews or apply for stuff face to face but doing that without any call-backs seems a little pointless.

Also, I am hoping to rent a one bedroom place but don't really know much about which areas are good/safe to live at (and that have a car space). If anyone has any tips on places to avoid or ones they would recommend I would love to hear it. Plus, how is the rental market at the moment? Is it going to be impossible for me to get anything as a first time Melbourne renter?

Thanks in advance!!

cbd based boot/shoe stretcher?
[info]mel_blog wrote in [info]melbournemaniac
Can anyone recommend a CBD based boot/shoe stretcher? You know those people that can get up to 1/2 a size more at times in a leather shoe or boot?

THANKS

$2 Books Carlton
[info]kibbleking wrote in [info]melbournemaniac
I've been seeing chalk messages on Lygon street saying "$2 books" with an arrow that points away from melbourne uni, but with no more guidance than that... I suspect it might be related to the used bookstore on Elgin that closed down recently but I've been unable to find any info. That particular location closed a month ago, however, and these tracks are fresh.

I only get half an hour for my lunch break so I can't really spend ages hunt around for this mythical land of $2 books. Does anyone know its exact address so I can get in and get out in thirty minutes? Help please!

Market recs?
[info]karishna wrote in [info]melbournemaniac
I'll be hosting an interstate vistior next week and we're looking for some markets. They need to be easily accessible by public transport, and I'd prefer the east side of the city. We're looking at going on a Wednesday, which does make things difficult, but could maybe head out on Friday.

We've already done Caribbean Gardens in the past, and are looking for something similar.

Finished In Time With You, now rewatching ROCH '06
[info]kycoo
Now that school is over, I'm back to watching dramas. The past few days I marathoned In Time With You, which has jumped to the top of my favorite twdrama list (sorry, Wish to See You Again, I still really like you, but you did drag at points) and will probably stay there because none of the upcoming twdramas seem even close to as superb as ITWY was.

More importantly, I've decided to rewatch Return of the Condor Heroes 2006. The last time I saw this was when it aired on the local Chinese channel five years ago, so my memory of it is pretty fuzzy. Except that Huang Xiaoming and Crystal Liu Yifei are freakin' gorgeous.

I was surprised to discover that I can actually keep up with the dialogue without having to look up every other sentence, which sometimes happens with me when it comes to wuxia dramas. Then again, the plot right now (I've only watched the first five eps so far) isn't all that complicated. The important thing is the eyecandy. Cue gratuitous fanservice shots: aka the 'naked' kung fu scene )
